Dear Domingo:

Please see job description below. Jim asked me to pass it along to you. Would you please help us circulate it around?

Thank you!

The Texas Civil Right Project (TCRP) seeks a staff attorney to take on all aspects of civil rights impact litigation in our Dallas-Fort Worth office, including race, sex, sexual orientation, religious, and disability discrimination cases. The lawyer would also fight police and prison brutality and support veteran and immigrant rights while defending people’s constitutional rights to free speech, voting, and privacy. TCRP, a nonprofit foundation, promotes civil rights and economic and racial justice for poor and low-income people throughout Texas.

Primary duties: All aspects of impact litigation in civil and human rights, including participation in the office systems for intake, investigation, and development of litigation. The staff attorney will conduct litigation as lead or second chair attorney under supervision of the TCRP Legal Director.

In the course of litigation, the lawyer will handle motion practice, discovery, settlement negotiations, mediations, court hearings, trials, and appeals. The staff attorney will also coordinate tasks to be delegated to support staff in support of litigation, supervise interns and law clerks, periodically conduct staff meetings, and report on the status of litigation.

In addition, the lawyer will collaborate with other TCRP attorneys and pro bono attorneys. The position also includes working with the community and doing public education through speaking at forums and to the media.

Qualifications: Compelling social justice experience and demonstrated commitment to public interest law. Other helpful qualifications include: experience in civil rights litigation; being licensed in Texas federal and state courts; experience with veterans, immigrants, and other communities we serve; electronic case filing experience; organizational ability; typing and computer skills; and ability to speak Spanish and other languages spoken by communities we serve.
Compensation: Competitive salary of $40,000+ offered depending on experience, as well as generous benefits, including medical, retirement, leave time, casual work environment, great co-workers, and knowledge you’re making a difference.

To Apply: Please send a cover letter, résumé, legal writing sample and three professional references as soon as possible via email or snail mail to: Rolando Pérez, Legal Manager, at rolando.tcrp or 1405 Montopolis Drive, Austin, TX 78741. We will consider applicants on a rolling basis.

Equal Opportunity: TCRP is an equal opportunity employer. People of color, women, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
